For OCD we use the words ‘obsessive compulsive reaction’ or ‘fear and delusion’ in Urdu. The main symptoms of this condition can be recurrence of any thought or thought in the mind and repetition of any action in response to it. Mild craziness is part of our daily life. For example, we lock the door before going to bed at night and then think about whether it might be locked or not and go and check again. But such thoughts can escalate and cause anxiety, leading to the condition. When a person tries to suppress or ignore these thoughts as a result of which these ambiguities re-emerge more intensely and then while reducing the anxiety of this delusion the individual spends most of his day in these activities. He spends time doing things that affect his economic, social and domestic life.

  • Fear of contamination or dirt
  • Doubting and having difficulty tolerating uncertainty
  • Needing things orderly
  • Aggressive or horrific thoughts about losing control and harming yourself or others
  • Unwanted thoughts, including aggression, or sexual or religious subjects
  • Hand-washing until your skin becomes raw
  • Checking doors repeatedly to make sure they’re locked
  • Checking the stove repeatedly to make sure it’s off
  • Counting in certain patterns
  • Silently repeating a prayer, word or phrase
  • Arranging your canned goods to face the same way
